American Gold Eagle CoinIn 1986, gold eagle coins debuted and are produced only in the United States of America. These were the initial 1-oz gold coins to be created by the U.S. Mint. Moreover, these coins were made of 22-karat gold, the first ever of their kind to be made by the Mint. Copper was included in the coins to bring them to 22-karat, so the total weight of the Gold Eagle is slightly over an ounce at 1.0909 oz.

Eagles are considered bullion, so they are worth their face value plus a price over spot. Spot is the term for the price at which gold trades in its raw state over a 2 day period. Spot is the standard for the cost of the most precious of all precious metals. Read more
