The United States Mint has announced that the 2011 American Gold Eagle will be offered starting on January 3, 2011. This is the date that the United States Mint’s exclusive network of authorized buyers can begin placing orders for the highly-anticipated gold bullion coins. Larger circulation to the public is projected to occur shortly afterward.

2011 will celebrate the 26th year in which the American Gold Eagle has been offered by the United States Mint. Since their introduction in 1986 these beautiful twenty two karat gold coins have been struck in uncirculated, proof and bullion varieties with only the creation of bullion Gold Eagles being mandatory by law. This fact has the potential to perform a part in the availability and minting of these gold collector's coins.

Most collectors should recall that the U.S. Mint in 2009 received a record number of orders for bullion Gold Eagles. The United states mint was unable to acquire enough quantities of gold blank planchets to meet the lawfully required demand for the bullion strikes. This scarcity forced the United States Mint to cancel the Gold eagle proof and uncirculated versions in order to guarantee sufficient bullion production. Proof variations of the Gold American Eagle did not come back to the market in 2010, although the Mint also decided not to manufacture the uncirculated version of the coin during the duration of that year either.

Four distinctive versions of the Gold Eagle are generally produced - one ounce, 1/2 ounce, 1/4 ounce and 1/10 ounce denominations will be offered with respective face values of $5, $10, $25 and $50. As a consequence of unforeseen circumstances the fractional versions have been occasionally canceled in several years (including the years 2009 and 2010) when just the 1-oz. size bullion gold Eagle was produced.

As in past years, the coin will present a full-length representation of the historical figure of Lady liberty on the coins obverse. Miss liberty is depicted wearing a flowing gown while holding a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other representing her continued desire for world harmony.

In the background rays of sunshine along with the U.S. Capitol are featured. The incredibly popular design is the creation of famed sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens which was previously featured on the 1907 to 1933 $20 Gold Piece. This stunning work of art is considered by many to be one of the most stunning images ever to be imprinted on a United States coin.

Miley Busiek created the reverse of the coin which depicts an eagle family's nest that features a mother and her young hatchlings with an adult male soaring above.

American Gold Eagles are the only bullion gold coins whose purity and weight have been guaranteed by the US government. On account of this guarantee, bullion investors have the ability to buy them as an addition to their individual retirement accounts (IRAs).

A release of collector versions of the coin is also estimated to take place during the year with many coin enthusiasts already making inquiries as to the potential release date.

With year-to-date sales of American Gold Eagles closing in on nearly one-million units sold for 2009, the United States Mint has experienced a banner year for their American Eagle coin program.

Gold Eagles have found strong investor interest throughout the year with many near record sale numbers achieved, including the month of September during which over 115,000 gold eagles were sold and experiencing one of it's highest selling Septembers by volume.

As investors shy away from traditional investment opportunities such as stocks and bonds, the American Gold Eagle has enjoyed a resurgence the last couple of years with no end to their popularity on the horizon. Gold Eagles not only draw the interest of investors here in the United States, they also have become one of the most revered gold bullion coins on a worldwide basis. As the global economy continues to lag, investors continue to seek a hedge against falling dollar values.

As the price of gold hovers at $1,000 per ounce, seeking ways to obtain physical gold as efficiently and safely as possible, has become a priority to many of those hoping to take advantage of potential future gains. American Gold Eagles fulfill many of those requirements as they are readily available, accepted as a quality gold bullion coin anywhere in the world and due to their convenient size can be easily and safely stored.

All in all, 2009 will go down as a great year for the American Gold Eagle coin, with many investors who were previously unaware of the benefits and enjoyment of obtaining Gold Eagles joining the ranks of the many thousands of experienced gold bullion investors.

Due to the the uncertainty hovering around today's traditional investment options including real estate along with stocks and bonds, many investors have begun to consider the benefits of adding physical gold to their portfolios for both long and short term gains. Market volatility combined with a weakening dollar has led investors to seek shelter in one of the most consistently trusted assets in history: Gold.

Today, gold is available in many forms, and American Gold Eagle Coins have become one of the most popular options available to investors as they are readily available for purchase and easy to store once obtained. As they are also backed by the government of the United States for their stated gold content and purity, investors can feel assured that the product that they are acquiring bears the quality hallmark of a gold bullion coin that has been produced by The United States Mint.

As gold has recently risen over $1,000 per ounce, many industry experts are predicting even further growth. As such, American Gold Eagle coins are seeing high demand with record numbers sold this year. The Mint recently had to begin the allocation of many gold bullion coin items as the availability of raw materials were just not able to keep up with consumer demand.

As the dollar weakens, gold prices tend to climb leaving many investors who have an eye toward diversification into precious metals, to serious interest in expanding into American Gold Eagle Coins.

June 24 -The United States Mint has announced that the production of American Proof Gold Eagles and Uncirculated Coins has been suspended temporarily due to the unprecedented demand for American Eagle Gold Bullion Coins. As of Monday the Mint has announced that all available 22-karat gold blanks have been allocated to the American Eagle Gold Bullion Coin Program as is required by Public Law to ensure that the coins are produced “in quantities sufficient to meet public demand . . . .”

The U.S. Mint will return to producing American Eagle Gold Proof and Uncirculated Coins once sufficient supplies of gold bullion blanks are acquired to meet collector and investor demand for all three American Eagle Gold Coin products. Also, due to the results of the United States Mint's recent numismatic product portfolio analysis, production will cease on fractional sizes of American Eagle Gold Uncirculated Coins.

New York- As a global economic crisis grows deeper, gold has not only held steady in US dollar terms but also increased in value against non U.S. currencies, and a strong buying market despite higher prices seems to signal that the precious metal may rally further.

A jump to safety amid economic termoil has bolstered the US dollar, which hurt dollar-denominated gold and made bullion more expensive when priced against other currencies. On Wednesday, gold traded at around $800 per ounce, about 20 percent lower than its all-time high $1,030 in March, driven by the dollar resurgence in the wake of plummeting crude oil prices and a worldwide recession.

The massive US Government market stimulus plan by the to help keep the economy afloat would lead to a lessened dollar value and higher inflation, which should bode well for gold in the long term, analysts said.

GOLD INVESTMENT NEWS:
Gold prices ended higher on Monday as U.S. dollar weakness created broad gains in the commodities market, although platinum prices finished lower after reaching 11-month lows during Asian trading.

Traders said gold was forming new bases, resulting in higher gains.

Gold priced at $810.70/811.90 (U.S.) on New York's final trade at 2:15 p.m. EDT, up from $799.65/801.05 at the U.S. market closed Monday. Precious metals started the session lower, slumping to a session low of $782.05.

The dollar was weak across the market as U.S. stocks fell while investors took profits on the dollar's recent gains. The greenback's slump triggered broad-based rallies in commodities and crude.
